Reflection of Zen School of Thought in hidden layers of Sepehri’s poems. LIRE 2013; 10 (39) :27-52

The poems of the pre-eminent poet, Sohrab Sepehri, have been printed in Iran on several occasions and have been translated into other languages. This in turn encourages us to study and analyze his poems and thoughts with further precision and accuracy. This contemporary acclaimed Iranian poet paid attention to the East and Far East mysticism. If we glance at his writings, signs of influence of the Zen School of Thought – which is a blend of Buddhism and Taoism- on his works, are evident. The important point is to realize that up to what extent understanding Zen School of Thought can help us to have a better understanding of this poet’s works. To this end, first of all we should know what Zen is. This article has precisely studied Zen School of Thought and Sohrab Sepehri and has concurrently taken into consideration the concepts of importance in Zen School of Thought and Sepehri’s poems. There were countless similarities among them. More importantly, it was found that without gaining an understanding of Zen School of Thought, parts of Sepehri’s poems are shrouded in ambiguity.
